![]() LEVEL 2 SURF INSTRUCTOR
The Level 2 Surf Instructor works with the intermediate surfer guiding them from white water to unbroken waves introducing skills such as duck diving, catching unbroken waves, riding in trim and basic manoeuvres. These skills are learned on hard boards on unbroken waves at beach breaks. The ISA Level 2 Surf Instructor course is aimed at experienced Level 1 Surf Instructors who wish to instruct intermediate surfers.
1:8* instructor/ student ratio when in the water with surfers, however it is recommended that groups are split with a maximum of 4 in the water at any given time when observing and working from land. It is not possible to accurately observe a group of eight surfing together. Surfer DefinitionsIntermediate: Learning to take off on unbroken waves, ride in trim on unbroken waves and complete basic manoeuvres. AimThis course aims to equip instructors with the skills and knowledge required to support and guide the development of the intermediate surfer in safe and enjoyable environment. Course Prerequisites:Level 1 Surf InstructorThe candidate must hold a current 1 Surf Instructor qualification and have had at least two years experience as a Level 1 instructor. Surfing AbilityThe candidate must be capable of paddling out back in a reasonable time, taking off and surfing right and left on an unbroken wave performing basic manoeuvres, bottom/ top turn and cutback. Life saving skillsSurf Instructor Beach Award or Beach Lifeguard or equivalent Child ProtectionThe candidate must have completed the ISC 4hr Basic Awareness Workshop on Code of Ethics And Good Practice in Children's Sport. CertificationFollowing completion of the Level 2 Instructor course the candidate must complete 30 hours (non- commercial) intermediate instructing and return log to the Irish Surfing Association. Student RatioThe Level 2 Instructor will operate a 1:8 instructor/ student ratio when in the water with surfers, however it is recommended that groups are split with a maximum of 4 in the water at any given time when observing and working from land. It is not possible for an instructor to accurately observe a group of eight surfing together. EnvironmentIntermediate surfers shall be instructed on beaches in conditions up to six foot (faces). |
